Okay, did everyone take one huge bottle of crazy pills before this legislative session or what? Honestly, I have not been keeping up with the legislature for the past couple of weeks and when I do some looking today, this is what I see:
1. Daugaard wants to keep a program that gives away millions of dollars to businesses - as Bob Mercer said, it is one of the reasons why South Dakota is in a structural deficit. That's okay I guess, we can just keep cutting the budgets of the schools and medical care, because those people apparently don't need it.
2. Daugaard wants to save some money though by ending the food-tax refunds to lower-income households. Food taxes are one of the worst taxes on those who can't afford it, but I guess if they die of starvation then they won't suck up our medicaid dollars or take up space in our schools - thanks.
3. And to prove a point, I'm going to point a gun at your head....and yours....and yours....and yours...
If you can't tell, this post is written with extreme sarcasm.

I completely agree! This session has been absolutely ridiculous so far! I hate to point fingers on party lines because I don't believe in voting because of party, but the Republicans have serious problems this year!
ReplyDeleteIt's all an exercise in democracy whereby the inmates run the asylum. That one party thinks its sweep of the election was mandate for doing so. It allows the inmates to act on their pathologies in their attempt to make the world conform to them.

HB 1176 No health insurance for county commissioners
HJR 1004 No Sharia law
HB 1197 Make candidates for offices such as school boards declare a party affiliation
HB 1120 drug tests for welfare recipients (a bill which may have some basis until you read the comments of its sponsors)
When the Old World critics of American democracy said the system can't possibly work, this is exactly the kind of thing they had in mind. The voters got what they voted for.
